When I first started creating my own jewelry, I bought jump rings by the pound. Small rings, big rings, silver rings, bronze rings, square rings….ah. There were seriously jump rings everywhere.
Talking to a fellow jewelry maker one day, she asked why I didn’t just make my own.
WHAT? DUH! Of coarse.
So, thanks to Amanda, I quickly learned how to make my own jump rings and I haven’t bought a single one for months.
Creating my own jump rings has saved me a little money, probably not much but knowing I’ll never run out of jump rings, and I can make whatever size I need? Priceless.
Here’s how you can make your own jump rings too.
1. Hold the piece of wire against your round object. Pencil, dowel, round nose pliers etc.
2. Use your fingers or pliers to coil the wire
tightly around the object as many times as you need.
Go slow and make sure that the wraps are tight and touch each other.
3. Remove the wire from your object.
4. Flush cut the ends.
Turn your cutters the opposite direction so you can flush cut
the 1st ring. Cut it so it’s even with the wire end.
5. Turn your cutters again so it faces the other direction and cut the tip of your wire.
Repeat until all your rings are completed.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions.
Have a fantastic Friday!
